Le Restaurant Prince
On the upper floor of the Piazza del Principe, a posh residential and retail compound, this upscale dining room offers one of the more decadent dinner scenes in the area with top chef and celebrity following.
A barrel ceiling main room is surrounded in open-pane windows overlooking the lively square below with swags of white fabric blowing in the Costa Smeralda winds. Raw stones walls and fluffy Oriental carpeting keep a tailored note to formal dinners on white tablecloths and candlelight. An adjacent, not quite as knobby, terrace features slip covered chairs and lounge ceiling amongst a group of second-tier reservations that didn’t have the clout for a spot in the main room.
A formal Michelin-ambitious menu of prix fixe and a la carte specialties begins with a selection of grilled seafood appetizers, local salads and delicate pasta dishes with toppings of truffles, meat sauces and flavorful ragus. Main course is a mix of local seafood specialties derived from local fishermen and grilled meat platters that include occasional summertime barbecues or hearty roasts. Dessert comes via an in-house pastry chef the whips-up culinary wonders served with homemade gelatos.
Long a popular lounge romp for local socialites, last season’s recruitment of one of the town’s best chefs and new lounge scene downstairs have made it an even-tougher reservation.
