Philippe at the Gansevoort South Hotel
Chef Philippe Chow, owner of Philippe, the upscale Chinese restaurant in New York City, opened his new restaurant at the Gansevoort South Hotel. This was in June to buzz-worthy acclaim in a section of South Beach that is rapidly becoming the centre of attention.
Philippe is located on the corner of Collins Avenue and 23rd Street, outside the hotel, and the restaurant has 400 seats—200 downstairs, 100 upstairs, 50 outdoors and 50 in a private wine cellar.
Chef Philippe Chow is the executive chef, and noodle master Chef Wai Ming Cheng runs the restaurant’s one of a kind noodle bar. Chefs make different styles of hand-pulled noodles right at the counter, a theatrical element that breaks down barriers between the kitchen and the dining room.
Philippe also features an open-air kitchen viewable from the second floor of the restaurant where diners can look down from their tables and watch their meals being prepared in addition to interacting with the noodle chefs at the bar.
